Refurbished Dell PowerEdge servers

PowerEdge is one of the most widely deployed server ranges in South African businesses, which keeps parts, memory and drives easy to find. Compare Dell with HPE and Lenovo in our full range of refurbished servers, or add server hard drives and DDR4 server memory.

Reading Dell PowerEdge model numbers

In a PowerEdge model such as the R740, the first digit is the class (2 and 3 entry, 4 and 6 dense 1U, 5 and 7 mainstream 2U, 8 and 9 four-socket) and the second digit is the generation.

14th Gen: R440, R540, R640, R740, R740xd

Intel Xeon Scalable (Silver, Gold, Platinum), DDR4-2666, iDRAC9 and NVMe options. The newest and most efficient PowerEdge servers we stock.

13th Gen: R230, R430, R630, R730, R930

Xeon E5 v3 and v4 with DDR4 memory and iDRAC8. The best value for virtualisation and general business workloads.

12th Gen: R420, R620, R720, R820

Xeon E5 v1 and v2 with DDR3 memory. Low cost servers for labs, backup targets and light workloads.

Refurbished Dell servers: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Dell R740 and R740xd?

The R740xd ("extreme density") is built for storage, with up to 12 3.5" or 24 2.5" front bays, while the R740 is the general-purpose 2U version with fewer bays and more room for expansion cards.

Do refurbished Dell servers include iDRAC?

Yes. Every PowerEdge has iDRAC remote management built in. Features such as the virtual console depend on the licence level fitted to that server, so ask us if you need a specific level.

What is the difference between PowerEdge R and T models?

R models (R640, R730) are rack servers that mount in a 19" cabinet. T models (T330, T630) are towers that stand on the floor or a desk, for offices without a rack. The same generation numbering applies to both.
