What decides the price of a server?

Two servers of the same model can differ in price because of how they are configured. The things that move the price most are:

  • Generation and processor family. Newer generations, such as Dell 14th Gen and HPE Gen10 with Xeon Scalable processors, cost more than earlier Xeon E5 machines.
  • Number of processors and cores. A two-processor server with more cores costs more than a single-processor unit, and handles more virtual machines.
  • Memory. RAM is a large share of a server's value; 128GB costs noticeably more than 32GB.
  • Drives, RAID and rails. Fitted drives, the RAID controller and rail kits add to the price, so check what each listing includes.

Why do servers of the same model have different prices?

Because they are configured differently. The processors, memory and drives fitted to each unit change the price, so compare the full spec on each listing rather than the model name alone.

Do the prices include the hard drives?

Each listing shows the processors, memory and drive bays. If you need drives, a RAID controller or rail kits fitted, ask us for a configured quote and we will price the complete server.

Are prices shown with or without VAT?

Prices are shown excluding VAT, the way business buyers compare hardware. The VAT-inclusive price is shown under each server, and every order comes with a tax invoice.

What warranty do refurbished servers come with?

Refurbished servers and hardware carry a 12-month warranty from delivery or collection. Hard drives, SSDs and batteries (including RAID controller and CMOS batteries) carry a 90-day limited warranty. A longer period applies where it is stated on the product page, quote or invoice.
